Our Scholars

Every year, we assess over 4,000 applicants and select up to 34 promising young Canadians as Loran Scholars, based on evidence of integrity, courage, compassion, grit and a high level of personal autonomy.

We provide Loran Scholars with opportunities to explore, develop and share their talents over four years of undergraduate study. At this time, there are 121 scholars attending 19 different universities across the country.

Our Alumni

The first three Loran Scholars graduated from university in 1994. Today, our 478 alumni are pursuing a wide variety of careers in Canada, the U.S. and other parts of the world. They include the former CEO of a global company, award-winning entrepreneurs, senior executives of large-scale institutions, six clerks at the Supreme Court of Canada, 21 Rhodes Scholars, the North Area Medical Director for the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority, scientists, educators, World Bank economists and executive directors of local and national charities.

Their passions, projects and careers are strikingly diverse, but what unites them is their continued commitment to one another and to our core values of character, service and leadership.

Although the average age of our alumni is only 30, and many of them are still pursuing graduate studies, 93% have made a donation to the foundation. They also dedicate thousands of volunteer hours to selecting and supporting future scholars.

Alumni remain connected to one another through gatherings organized by regional coordinators and the Connexion reunion weekend.
